Instruction on Channel Preparation

Guidelines on vent preparation for drain pipe connection

The following procedure shall be performed in order to prepare a vent for pipe connection to drainage channel:

1. Determine a place of plug removal.

2. Using a drill with bore bits of appropriate diameter, make a vent suitable for scroll-sawing.

3. By means of scroll-saw make a vent, cutting it around the circle.

4. If it is impossible to make a closed saw cut, contoured saw cuts shall be made in accessible places, thereafter knock out the plug with the hammer.

5. Prior to plug knockout it is obligatory to fasten grid so that to increase stiffness.

6. A sewer pipe shall be connected to the channel after plug removal.

Guidelines on vent preparation for drain pipe sidewall connection

1. Determine a place of plug removal.

4. If it is impossible to make a closed saw cut, contoured saw cuts shall be made in accessible places, thereafter knock out the plug with the hammer.

Guidelines on vent preparation for drain pipe sidewall connection

The following procedure shall be performed in order to prepare a vent for sidewall connection of one drainage channel to the other.

6. After plug removal corresponding channel line of similar or less height shall be connected to the channel.

Guidelines on channel slitting into 2 channels of height 0.5 m (or other length)

ECOTECK drainage channels can be easily divided  into the parts of required length.

It can be performed with the use of basic tools such as panel or hack saw. If available, scroll saws can be used, angle sanding machines (angle grinders), stationary and portable circular saws.

In order to obtain channels by length of 0.5 m the following operations shall be performed:

1. Fix a saw with saw teeth towards a special gap and slit the channel precisely along the gap between two guides.

2. Perform a mechanical treatment of the edges to eliminate unevenness formed after slitting.

3. In case grid slitting is required, a sawing place shall be thoroughly located.

Slit components are usually installed along the edges of the mounting line or in the middle upon nonlinear laying.

Guidelines on plug installation onto cast iron grids С250

A specially designed plastic plug is used in order to close vents of the grid during lock-bead assembly.

Plug installation shall be made prior to installation of the grid itself on the drainage channel.

A plug shall be installed on the grid during mounting and is used for the following purposes: for better appearance and sheltering of grid process windows for window area reduction. The plug also prevents trash and foreign objects entering the channel via a large window.

Guidelines on installation of cast iron grid with boltless fastening

Cast iron grid of load class С250 has a unique fastener with the use of locking bead.

Locking bead is latched with special grid hooks, fixing therewith in the intended channel gaps.

A standard fitter turn screw or other similar tool is used for installation.

Guidelines on installation of cast iron grid of 200 series with load class В125 and С250

1. Locate two bars for grids’ fixing in the appropriate channel gaps. The bars shall be placed prior to channel positioning in the concrete hooping.

2. Set two grids on the channel. Therewith, grid stops located in the support surfaces of the grid shall be positioned in the corresponding channel sockets.

3. After tightening the fastener up to the stop, mount both grids one by one on the channel.

Guidelines on channel butt jointing

Channels can be jointly connected, for this purpose it is equipped with a gap from one side and a ledge –from the other. Additional joint sealing is performed by means of different joint fillers. A special technological groove is designed for layering of joint filler.

In case of channel angular jointing, channels and grids shall be sawed and mitered.

Prior to saw cut of the channels an accurate marking shall be executed, trying to achieve a maximum tight adjoining of channels and grids. It shall be noted that for sliting purposes a grid shall be fixed to at least one fastener (for grids with two fasteners). All cut borders of metal components shall be cleaned from barbs, and the anti-corrosion protection shall be provided for the edges.

Guidelines on butt joint seam sealing

In order to make a constant elastic compensation and damp-proof seam for Ecoteck drainage channels one shall be governed by DIN EN1433standard.

Surface treatment:

1. Clean treated surface from oil and greases, dry it out.

2. Apply the joint filler in the seam cavity with the use of the gun. To ensure a decent adhesion level, it is advisory to remove excessive filler by means of palette-knife and grind the seam by using of soap solution.

After treatment an outer seam surface shall gave a slightly concave profile. Channel displacement relative to each other within 24 hours is not allowed. The best joint seam width is 2 mm.

Seam sealing of the channel with sand trap or rainwater basin is performed in the same way.
